It’s been a funny old month…

Now, there’s  an understatement.

There have been stark reminders of our fragile mortality; death, sickness and tragedy,  and then, in the bravery of our front line people, we’ve seen the strength of humanity under pressure.

From my narrow, protected perspective, I’ve seen the best: generosity;  cheerfulness, resourcefulness. It’s been wonderful.

So. What of art?

Big surprises for me. Most of my regulars swung into online classes with gusto. And what they’ve been producing has been truly astonishing.  Great abstracts from painters who have never tackled them before; beautiful Springtime watercolours; plein  air painting; searching self-portraits.

We are not the same people now, and that has been plainly visible. The conditions imposed by the virus can open up people to make great art, poetry and music. Fascinating stuff….and so original.

And when we’re through this? I wonder….
